How long can a bee live?

The lifespan of a bee varies depending on its role within the colony. Worker bees, which are female bees assigned with tasks such as foraging, cleaning, and nursing, usually live for about 5-6 weeks during the summer months. However, winter worker bees can live for several months. Queen bees, on the other hand, have a significantly longer lifespan. A typical queen bee can live for 2-5 years, although some queens have been known to live for up to 7 years. This is mainly due to the fact that queen bees have a less physically demanding lifestyle and are provided with better nutrition.

Male bees, known as drones, have the shortest lifespan. Their primary purpose is to mate with a queen. Once they have fulfilled this role, drones die shortly afterward. Drones typically live for around 2-3 months during the summer season.

It’s important to note that the lifespan of bees can vary depending on factors such as the health of the colony, availability of food, climate conditions, and the presence of predators or diseases.
